Research and medical studies have repeatedly proved that spending time in Nature can have beneficial effects on our body and mind. A study published at the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies found that simply taking a walk in nature and exposing yourself to the natural world yields positive effects on the body improving overall health, reducing stress and promoting healing. People who spent two hours a week in green spaces — local parks or other natural environments, either all at once or spaced over several visits — were substantially more likely to report good health and psychological well-being than those who don’t. Nature is a place to escape from all the stress of everyday life, but it’s also a have-to-have for physical health and cognitive function.
An increasing number of healthcare providers are also embracing the back-to-nature paradigm. One organization, Park RX America, founded by Robert Zarr of Unity Healthcare in Washington, D.C., declares its mission “ to decrease the burden of chronic disease, increase health and happiness, and foster environmental stewardship”. If you are feeling depressed, anxious and worried, then one of the best things you can do is go out in nature.
